Florence Ayisi is professor of International Documentary Film. She is a scholar and award-winning documentary filmmaker with over 29 years of experience in film/media education, specialising in documentary filmmaking, critical media literacy, intersectionality, the politics of representation and visibility, and spectatorship. Ayisi uses film as a method of social inquiry, cultural empowerment and preservation, social justice, memory-making and resistance. Her work is grounded in Pan-African, decolonial, transnational and ecofeminist perspectives, amplifying marginalised voices, fostering counter narratives, alternative knowledge systems to reductive portrayals of African culture and womanhood.
