Ann Njuguna believes that data without faces, voices, and stories can do more harm than good, and that lived experiences are powerful tools for social change.
As the Communications Lead for The Girl Generation-ALM, she works closely with survivors of FGM and other forms of GBV to strengthen their ability to tell their own stories and reclaim their narratives, especially the African narrative in storytelling. Ann emphasizes the importance of understanding informed consent and respecting comfort levels in storytelling; It takes time to tell the whole story. She also advocates for the right to say ‘no’ to sharing personal journeys and not coercing survivors.
Ann has a passion for including persons living with disabilities in storytelling, especially in the end GBV and FGM movement. “Their voices are rare, special, and matter. They give us insights into how best to involve them in the movement,” she adds.
Her role includes working closely with Communications, Advocacy, and Movement Building team (CAMB) members as well as consortium partners to amplify voices and foster resilience to drive respectful and impactful social movements.
