Shirley Govender is an award-winning community journalist and publisher of Globe Post, Orange Farm News, and Walkerville & Savanna City Times, serving Johannesburg’s Deep South. As founder of Xenor Projects, she leads a Black women-led newsroom dedicated to Solutions Journalism and digital transformation. A 2025 Nat Nakasa Community Media Award recipient, she uses her news platforms to amplify women’s voices, strengthen social cohesion, and champion community-led solutions. Inspired by the AWIM 2025 theme of advancing women’s leadership in African media, Shirley is committed to storytelling that heals, connects, and empowers women and communities to thrive.
