Mwende (Olive) Mukwanyaga is a systems thinker and ethical AI designer whose work is shaped by nature and craft. She leads the AI Salon Consortium, building governance frameworks that adapt like ecosystems. With a background in journalism and clinical psychology, Mwende imagines and co-creates tools, like anti-trolling bots modeled on bird flocks and trauma-aware algorithms inspired by handmade jewelry, that address digital violence across Africa. Her approach draws from fermentation, beading, and urban bird tracking to design AI that is dynamic, relational, and context-aware. Mwende believes ethical systems must be alive, requiring care, connection, and continual adaptation to the environments they serve.
