Oluyinka Esan is committed to bridging gaps between theory, media practice and society. Her quest in academia is to develop knowledge and understanding of communication cultures for behavioural changes to drive social development. A Professor of Film, Television and Development Communication at Caleb University Lagos, Nigeria, Oluyinka brings non-Western perspectives to established conventions. An advocate for women and children, she has written on production practices, foregrounded inquiries into cultures of reception and offered insight into how audiences derive pleasure and create and circulate meaning from their consumption. She has edited books and journals including Communication Cultures in Africa, for which she is the founding editor. She is the chair of AWiM’s board.
