Sylvia Adongo serves at the Communication and Information Sector at the UNESCO Regional Office for Eastern Africa where she focuses on programs that advance freedom of expression, safety of journalists, access to information, media and information literacy and digital governance. Her work centers on advancing gender equality and occupational safety in the media practice, strengthening media and information literacy among diverse stakeholders and advocating for locally relevant digital governance policies. She is currently working on advancing efforts to combat online disinformation, misinformation, and hate speech, while building media literacy skills for vulnerable communities.
